PUGET SOUND: WE LOVE YOU

Project Overview
Problem

Youth volunteers from Seattle Aquarium were unable to interact with marine conservation messaging during COVID-19 facility and aquarium closures.

Assessing Resources

Former Puget Sound: We Love You social media campaign programming was on a hiatus for a few years - now felt like a good time to bring it back.

The campaign was outdated and lacked consistency/professionalism, so work would need to be done to reintroduce the account into the modern conservation realm with similar aesthetics to other popular activism accounts like IE and more.

Solution

Restart and REVAMP the Puget Sound: We Love You campaign with a new cohort of admins responsible for social media posts, branding, and upkeep, and train other volunteers in content creation for inspiring action.

Aim

Use the Puget Sound: We Love You platform to extend the aquarium's mission of"Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment" to the online/virtual realm. Engage others outside of the local area in conservation messaging and advocacy engagement.

THE REBRAND

After noticing the pixelated nature of the existing campaign logo, the other reboot admins and I thought it'd be a great idea to dabble with a whole new logo and brand look for PSWLY.

I aimed to maintain the main features of the original logo like the unique 7-armed Octopus, heart motifs, and its color scheme with a modern twist.

SPECIAL CAMPAIGNS

Aside from developing miscellaneous infographics and informational posts, each admin was also responsible for creating special events/campaigns. One of my events was Corners of Conservation, a month-long series of posts featuring individuals working in conservation in a variety of ways, many of which are often overlooked in the grand world of environmental activism and advocacy.
